On behalf of the whole Tytherington School community, we would like to congratulate the Sixth Form class of 2022 for their phenomenal achievements. You will recall that this year group were unable to take GCSE examinations in 2020 and endured significant disruption to their Sixth Form experience. Despite these challenges, the students have performed incredibly well and are a great example of what can be achieved through hard work, grit and determination.

In line with the other local schools, we will not be releasing headline measures this year although what we will say is that we are celebrating another set of strong results. We are particularly proud of the progress students have made in relation to their starting points.

The students below achieved three or more A*/A/Distinction* grades and we would like to take this opportunity to formally congratulate them on their exceptional achievement:

Amelia Preston A* A* A*
Jake Kilpatrick A* A* A*
Phoebe Mullins A* A* A*

A number of students achieved two A*/A / Distinction* grades: Alfie Taylor, Thomas Roberts, Abigail McDonald, Aidan Simpson, Jude Pinches, Morgan Leigh-Howard, Nadia Hulme, Reece Evans, Benjamin Ward, Charlie Jackson, Erin Smith, Leonie Benn, Myles Corn, Iona Wolstenholme, Jackson Leigh and Megan Woolley.

There are so many students we could single out for praise, but we would like to highlight the following who exemplify the effort and achievement of the whole year group:

  • Abigail McDonald and Alexander Brown achieved the highest value-added scores in the Sixth Form. This is based on progress made from GCSE. Abigail has secured a place to read Drama and Film Studies at the University of Sussex and Alexander will be reading Mathematics at the University of Durham.
  • Amelia Preston has secured a place to read Natural Sciences at Cambridge University and Beatrix Haigh will be reading Medicine at The University of Leeds.
  • Ben Wood, Declan Sutcliffe, Evie Hadfield and Harrison McGovern have all secured prestigious Degree Apprenticeships.

Head of Sixth Form, Ms Roe, said: “Well done to the class of 2022. I am very proud of the determination and resilience that our students have demonstrated this year. They are a great group of young people who I know will continue to grow in the years ahead. I know they leave us with many fond memories of their time at Tytherington”.

Headteacher, Mr Botwe said: “This year group started their secondary experience when I joined the school so they will always hold a special place in my heart. I am delighted with the progress the students have made during their time at Tytherington and I am excited to see what they will achieve in the future. You will know that we have a very proud comprehensive tradition at our Sixth Form and I’m pleased that we have the full range of students moving on to top universities, apprenticeships and the world of work. Their success has been down to their hard work combined with the passion of our staff. Well done!”
