Tytherington School celebrates impressive Ofsted report

Tytherington School is delighted to announce the publication of its latest Ofsted report, which recognises the school’s continued commitment to high standards, inclusion and excellence in education.

Under Ofsted’s new inspection framework, schools no longer receive a single overall judgement. Instead, inspectors evaluate different aspects of school life individually.

Tytherington School was recognised as Strong in:

  • Leadership and Governance
  • Curriculum and Teaching
  • Inclusion
  • Personal Development and Wellbeing
  • Post-16 Provision

Achievement and Attendance and Behaviour were both judged to meet the Expected Standard, while safeguarding standards were confirmed as met.

Importantly, under the new framework, a Strong judgement means inspectors have found that aspect of a school’s work to be operating signiifcantly above the standard expected. Having reviewed the reports published since the introduction of the new framework, very few schools have been recognised as Strong in five inspection areas. This is an outcome of which the whole Tytherington community can be immensely proud.

The report is a powerful endorsement of the school’s vision and values.

Inspectors found that “leaders share a clear vision of high expectations and inclusive education.” They praised the quality of teaching saying that teachers regaularly “use highly effective strategies to ensure that all pupils can succeed” and concluded that “personal development is a significant strength of the school.”

The report also describes Tytherington as “a calm” school where “pupils and students are proud to belong to this school,” where “lessons are rarely disrupted,” and where pupils leave “well prepared for their next steps and move on to ambitious destinations.”

The inspection recognised the school’s commitment to combining high expectations with genuine inclusion, ensuring that every young person, whatever their background or starting point, is supported to achieve their very best.

Headteacher Manny Botwe said:

“We are naturally delighted with this report, but what pleases me most is what it says about our school. It recognises the culture we have worked hard to build over many years: one founded on high expectations, genuine inclusion and an unwavering belief that every child can succeed.

We have always believed that schools should not have to choose between being ambitious and being inclusive. This report recognises that Tytherington is a school where those two principles go hand in hand.

This achievement belongs to our whole community. I would like to thank our dedicated staff, our governors and trustees, our families and, above all, our fantastic students. They represented the school with tremendous maturity throughout the inspection and should be immensely proud of the part they played.

Like every successful school, we remain ambitious to improve further. We will continue to build on this success and remain focused on providing the very best education for every young person entrusted to our care.”

The report identifies opportunities to continue improving attendance and to further narrow the disadvantage gap. These priorities are already central to the school’s improvement plans and will continue to be a key focus in the years ahead.
