PRESS RELEASE: A* Report for Tytherington School
Five Strong judgements place Tytherington’s inspection among the strongest reports published in the North West under Ofsted’s new inspection framework so far.
Tytherington School is celebrating the publication of a glowing Ofsted report that recognises the school as Strong in five key areas under the inspectorate’s new report card system.
The school was recognised as Strong in Curriculum and Teaching, Inclusion, Leadership and Governance, Personal Development and Wellbeing, and Sixth Form Provision. Achievement and Attendance and Behaviour were both judged to meet the Expected standard, while safeguarding was confirmed as meeting all statutory requirements.
Unlike the previous inspection framework, Ofsted no longer awards schools a single overall judgement such as Outstanding or Good. Instead, schools receive separate judgements across the areas that matter most to children and families. In its guidance for parents, Ofsted explains that a Strong judgement is awarded to schools that have been doing “excellent work for a long time” and are “making a real difference to children.”
The report praises Tytherington’s ambitious curriculum, highly effective teaching, strong leadership and inclusive culture.
Inspectors recognised the ambitious curriculum leaders have developed and the highly effective teaching that enables students to build their knowledge securely over time. They praised teachers’ carefully planned explanations, skilful questioning and consistently high expectations, ensuring that students know more, remember more and are well prepared for the next stage of their education.
The inspection also recognised the school’s calm and purposeful culture, noting that lessons are rarely disrupted, relationships between staff and students are strong and pupils are proud of their school. Inspectors found that students feel safe, enjoy learning and value the wide range of opportunities available to them.
Beyond the classroom, the report highlights Tytherington’s extensive programme of enrichment, leadership opportunities, educational visits, music, drama, sport, volunteering and careers education. Inspectors described Personal Development as “a significant strength of the school,” recognising the school’s commitment to developing confident, well-rounded young people.
The report also praises Tytherington’s commitment to inclusion. Inspectors recognised the highly effective support provided for students who face barriers to learning or wellbeing, while maintaining ambitious expectations and ensuring that all students can access the same ambitious curriculum.
Headteacher Manny Botwe said:
“For many years, we have spoken about developing A* People, not simply achieving A* grades. I am delighted that this report recognises exactly that. It reflects the hard work of our students, the dedication of our staff and the support of our parents and wider community.”
Mr Botwe added:
“We have never viewed inspection as the destination. It is an important milestone, but our ambition remains unchanged. We will continue to build on this report and ensure that every young person receives an exceptional education and leaves Tytherington ready to flourish.”
