Headteacher, Manny Botwe, Becomes ASCL President

Tytherington School is delighted to announce that its headteacher, Manny Botwe, has been appointed as the new President of the Association of School and College Leaders (ASCL). ASCL represents over 25,000 school and college leaders across the UK and is one of the countries most influential educational organisations. His role will involve him regularly meeting with government ministers, Ofsted and other major stakeholders who influence decisions relating to key educational issues.

Mr Botwe, who has been the Headteacher of Tytherington School since 2015, brings a wealth of experience and a strong commitment to ensuring that every student has access to high-quality education. His dedication to student welfare, staff development, and the school community has earned him widespread respect within the educational sector.

In his new role as ASCL President, Mr Botwe will play a pivotal part in guiding the organisation’s mission to shape the future of education in the UK. His appointment comes at a crucial time for the sector, with schools facing unprecedented challenges, from addressing the ongoing impact of the pandemic on learning, to improving equity and access in education.

Speaking on his appointment, Mr Botwe said:

“I am deeply honoured to take on the role of ASCL President at such a critical time for education. Schools are the cornerstone of our communities, and it’s essential that we work together to overcome the challenges we face, particularly around student outcomes for the most disadvantaged students. The theme of my Presidential year is “A Brighter Future”. I look forward to working closely with the government to co-construct a future where every child has access to a broad and exciting education. A high quality education should not depend on wealth or where you live. I look forward to collaborating with my colleagues across the country to drive meaningful change and ensure the best possible educational experience for every young person.”

Under his leadership, Tytherington School has flourished academically while also prioritising the mental health and wellbeing of its students, values he is keen to promote throughout his presidency.

Mr Botwe’s presidency marks an exciting new chapter for the ASCL, with a renewed focus on collaboration, innovation, and ensuring that schools and colleges have the resources they need to help all students thrive.
