New MP Laura Smith visited Tytherington School to talk to Sixth Formers and members of the Student Parliament about life as a new MP. Laura Smith was elected MP for Crewe and Nantwich in the last general election by one of the narrowest margins in the whole country (48 votes).

Laura Smith MP answered questions ranging from her views of Brexit, votes for 16 year olds and funding for Cheshire East schools.
She talked about the importance of always believing in yourself and aiming high.

Sixth Former, Bethany Wilson, tweeted: “absolutely wonderful talk from Laura Smith MP today. She answered questions with an honesty you don’t see in a lot of MPs.”

Headteacher, Mr Botwe, said: “This was a great way to kick off Parliament Week. Across the week we will be running Student Parliament workshops for our feeder primary schools and there will be a Cheshire East councillor Question Time for students to enjoy. We are also delighted that our local MP David Rutley is able to come in and talk to students. There will also be several lessons devoted to students learning about democracy in the UK. This will be an exciting week.”
