Tytherington Women’s Group – Period Poverty Campaign

The Tytherington Women’s Group would like to say a huge thank you to everyone in the school community who donated to the collection of period products and other toiletries. Many students had been shocked to learn that 1 in 10 girls in the UK cannot afford period products and that 49% of girls had missed a day of school due to their period (according to a recent study by Plan International).

But as well organising the physical collection, the Women’s Group were particularly keen to break down the stigma around period products by getting students to talk about pads and tampons, and not be shy about purchasing these or bringing them into school!

As you can see from the photographs, the response to the campaign was incredible. These donations have now been collected by the Silklife Foodbank so that they can be distributed to those in need in the Macclesfield area.

Dan Blackman, of the Silklife Foodbank, sent his thanks too, saying that ‘your collaborative approach to collect self-care donations yielded a huge response and we were delighted with the collection you donated. When we came into the hall and saw all of those donations it was quite emotional. Well done to you all.’

Thank you to everyone who contributed.
