Tuesday night saw the return of the Tytherington School Christmas Concert following a two year absence due to Covid. The Christmas Concert typically marks the start of the school festive season so it was fantastic to see the event so well attended by students, parents and staff.

The night was packed with wonderful performances from all the school ensembles and talented soloists. The concert starting with the Concert Band performing the seasonal ‘Walking in the Air’ from the ‘The Snowman’ to set the Christmas mood. Performances followed from the Choir, Jazz band and String group to entertain the school hall. An excellent performance from the Drum group proved very popular with the audience, as was the debut performance of the A Capella group run by the talented Miss Thorp. Steel Drum band, led by Paul Aiken brought a Caribbean Christmas to Tytherington with their rendition of ‘Rocking Around the Christmas Tree’. Ms Fellows read the witty poem of ‘The Boy Who Laughed at Santa Claus’ to add a lighthearted interlude.

We were treated to outstanding solo performances on piano from Louisa Griffin (Yr10) and Riley D’Arcy (yr11), a piano and violin duet from Emily Kan (yr10) and Erin Vincent (yr10) and a Clarinet solo from Esther Bird (yr12).

The concert was concluded with a rousing rendition of ‘We Wish you a Merry Christmas’ accompanied by the Concert band.

It is not too late to get involved in the musical ensembles on offer at Tytherington. Clubs run weekly and are open to any students interested. Steel drum band currently has places open for anyone who would like to join. Speak to your music teacher for further information.

Your next opportunity to see the hard work of our talented music students will be at the Spring Concert towards the end of the Spring Term 2023, we hope to see you there.
