Dear Families,

You will be aware from the letter that I sent to you earlier this term that the National Education Union (NEU) have declared a series of teacher strikes. The next strikes are due to take place on Wednesday 15th March 2023 and Thursday 16th March 2023. Just to be clear, the strike is happening not because of any issues in school but as a consequence of an ongoing national dispute between the NEU and the government.

As is the case for many other secondary schools across the country, we have several teachers who will be involved in the planned industrial action which means that we will not be able to open safely to all students on those days. School will be closed to all year groups on those days apart from Year 7. Please can Year 7 students pack their PE kit for both days.

There will be some bespoke activities taking place for Year 11 across the strike days.

Wednesday 15th March:

  • Year 11 Geographers will have a rearranged Fieldwork Trip to the River Bollin – As per previously arranged, during school time and in two separate groups.
  • The scheduled Year 11 evening theatre trip to see An Inspector Calls will still go ahead and students involved should meet at 16:40 in the turning circle.

Thursday 16th March

  • The Engineering examination will go ahead as planned.
  • The scheduled Music Ensemble performances will still take place.
  • Year 11 students will have English sessions in the Main Hall on writing to argue and persuade. Mr Pilbury and Mr Bennett will send home a separate letter for Year 11 students outlining the timings of these sessions.

Year 11 Mandarin students will also be contacted about a revision session taking place on one of those days.

There will also be a few specific sessions running for students in different year groups. Individual teachers will alert students and parents in advance of the session.

For students not in school, work will be set via Firefly.

I’m sorry that you will have to make alternative arrangements for your child and that they will experience disruption to their education. I will inform you as soon as possible if arrangements change further.
