Dear Families,

You may be aware that the National Education Union (NEU) have declared two further teacher strikes before the end of this academic year. The strikes are due to take place on Wednesday 5th July and Friday 7th July 2023. Just to be clear, the strike is happening not because of any issues in school but as a consequence of an ongoing national dispute between the NEU and the government.

As is the case for many other secondary schools across the country, we have several teachers who will be involved in the planned industrial action which means that we will not be able to open safely to all students on those days. As a result we will have partial opening on both days. Below I have set out which students and year groups will be required in school at particular times:

Wednesday 5th July 2023

· All Year 9 students should attend school. Students on the B-Side of the Year group will still attend the planned Geography Field Trip and A-Side students will be in school and accessing normal lessons.

· Students in Years 10 and 12 are only required in school at times when they have scheduled mock examinations. Students in those year groups without examinations should revise at home unless you are studying Child Development. The study area will be open to any students who have morning and afternoon exams.

· Year 10 Child Development students need to come in from 08:45 for an NEA Review Day to improve their coursework. They will be able to leave once it is reviewed and improved.

· Years 7 & 8 work at home.

Friday 7th July 2023

· Year 8 in school as normal

· Years 10 & 12 students should only come in for scheduled mock examinations. Students who have completed their examinations should complete any homework that has been set or tasks relating to preparation for Work Experience which takes place in the following week.

· Years 7 & 9 will need to work at home.

The drama and music departments will be overseeing rehearsals for the summer production throughout those days. Students who are involved will be informed by Ms Fellows and Mr Lilley. There will also be a few specific sessions running for students in

different year groups. Individual teachers will alert students and parents in advance of the session.

For students not in school, work will be set via Firefly.

I’m sorry that you will have to make alternative arrangements for your child and that they will experience disruption to their education. I will inform you as soon as possible if arrangements change further.
