Huge green energy investment made by Tytherington School

This week Tytherington School officially turned on their huge Air Source Heat Pump installation which replaces gas-fired boilers. The pumps will be used to heat the school buildings.  The installation was funded by a government grant via the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme. The school also raised money to contribute to the costs.  The new pumps allow a decarbonisation of the heating operation and will significantly reduce the school’s carbon footprint.

The new pumping station was formally opened by the Headteacher and members of the school Eco-Committee on 28th November 2023.

Headteacher, Manny Botwe said: “We are absolutely delighted to be one of the first schools in the country to have adopted this new technology in our school. We anticipate that over 100 tonnes of CO2 will be saved annually.  This is a serious commitment to our aim of becoming the first carbon-neutral school in the country. There are several initiatives around the school ranging from sourcing our catering ingredients from local farms to a huge window upgrade project. There is more to come so watch this space! A big well done to the Student Eco Committee who have driven this initiative.”
