On behalf of the whole Tytherington School community, we would like to congratulate the achievements of the GCSE class of 2022. The students have had to endure two disrupted academic years as a result of the pandemic. Despite this, the class of 2022 have risen to the challenge.

In line with the other local schools, we will not be releasing headline measures this year although what we will say is that we are celebrating a brilliant set of results in the context of an unprecedented set of circumstances. We are particularly proud of the progress students have made in relation to their starting points.

A number of students achieved seven or more grades at 7+ and we would like to take this opportunity to formally congratulate them on their exceptional achievement (* indicates those students that achieved Grades 8 or 9 across all of their subjects):

As always, behind the headline figures there are several stories of students who have achieved well having had to overcome challenges and hurdles. There are some great stories of individual success, with many students making huge progress over the course of their time at Tytherington School. I could name so many students who have done very well.

We would also like to take this opportunity to highlight a few students who exemplify the achievement of the students in Year 11.

In 2019 and as Year 8 students, Esther Bird, Anna Wilkie and Amelie Mayou represented Tytherington School in the National Rotary Youth Speaks debating competition progressing through local, county, regional and national rounds. They won at the 2019 national finals in Nottingham and have each achieved a winning set of grade 7s to 9s across all of their GCSE subjects, three years later.

You may have seen the progress that Hayden Blunn has been making as an athlete reported through our @TytheringtonSch Twitter account. Carefully balancing training and study, Hayden (a decathlete) has enjoyed incredible success in the High Jump, winning Gold at the English Schools Championships. He is now competing for England in international competition. He now adds a set of 10 strong GCSE results to his achievements in 2022.

Mr Botwe, Headteacher, was delighted when he saw the results this morning. He said: “Whilst we are delighted that so many students have achieved well this year, what matters to us most is that the youngsters leave here as A* people with a real desire to make a positive difference to the world. The results are testament to the exceptional graft of our students combined with the passion and enthusiasm of our staff. We are excited to see what this special year group will achieve in the Sixth Form.”
