Headteacher’s Notes

I hope you are well. Thank you for joining me this week. I am writing this introduction from a hotel room in Liverpool as I am currently at the Association for School and Colleges Leaders (ASCL) National Conference in my capacity as Vice President. One of my responsibilities as Vice President is to meet with the Secretary of State for Education, Gillian Keegan MP, and make representations to the government on behalf of the education sector. It was great to be able to put forward questions which had come about as a result of meeting with the Sixth Form Student Council reps earlier this week as well as from the students who “took over” my role on Tuesday as part of Takeover Day. The students came up with a whole host of questions on the topics of funding, support for students with special educational needs, services for young people needing additional support with their mental health, more opportunities for extra curricular activities and greater initiatives to support the recruitment and retention of staff in schools.
